History of the Society

From a handful of founding members to a state-wide professional body — a look back at how the society has grown over six decades.

The society is founded by a small group of practising psychiatrists to create a shared professional platform.

[1978]

First Annual Scientific Conference held, bringing together members for structured continuing education.

[1992]

Introduction of the Lifetime Achievement Award to recognise senior members' contribution to the field.

[2005]

Society membership crosses 300 life members; regional chapters established.

[2020]

Hybrid CME format introduced, expanding access to members across the region.

61st Annual Day celebrated, with renewed focus on caregiver wellbeing initiatives.
