The Metro Psychiatric Society is a professional association of qualified psychiatrists working to advance the science and practice of psychiatry, promote continuing medical education, and improve mental health awareness in the community.
Founded by a small group of practising psychiatrists, the society has since grown into one of the region's most active professional bodies, running regular CME programmes, an annual scientific conference, and public mental-health outreach initiatives.
To advance psychiatric education, encourage research, uphold ethical clinical practice, and represent the interests of psychiatrists at policy level — while working to reduce the stigma around mental illness in society.

Respected members, on our 61st Annual Day, as I stand here, my mind goes back to the year I joined this profession and became a life member of our society. I never imagined that one day I would be addressing this society as its President.
What I have earned today is far more valuable than money — the trust and respect of colleagues who chose me to lead. I remain grateful to my mentors, my colleagues in practice, and to my patients, from whom I have learnt the most.
This year, I want to address a subject close to all of us, yet often unspoken — the wellbeing of the caregiver. We work tirelessly for our patients, but who cares for the health of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff? Going forward, our society will focus on member wellness programmes alongside our academic calendar.
I look forward to a productive year ahead, with your continued support and participation.
